We’ve all heard about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but have you heard about Giving Tuesday? Launched in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement that encourages individuals to support local causes and campaigns aimed at making the world a better place. IMPD and the Indy Public Safety Foundation are excited to take part in this movement and are seeking your support of an impactful project: the IMPD Youth Mountain Bike Project.
The IMPD Youth Mountain Bike Project (YMBP) was established in 2015 by IMPD North District Bike Unit officers to help build a connection between our youth in under-appreciated neighborhoods and the police through mountain biking. The project features the Headquarters Mountain Bike Skills Park, one of the only mountain bike skills park in an urban core in the country. The park includes several miles of trail and dozens of features to help children learn bike skills and safety, along with life skills such as confidence and communication.
In 2019, IPSF and IMPD invested $25,000 in a Shoretrax mobile mountain bike park – the second of its kind in the United States. This expansion allows IMPD to provide this vital skill- and relationship-building experience at schools, parks, community centers and other locations city-wide. To transport the mobile bike park, bikes, helmets and other supplies, we need a transport vehicle! On this Giving Tuesday, IPSF and IMPD are aiming to complete our fundraising efforts to secure this van. We’ve raised over half of the $35,000 needed – we need your help to get us to the finish line!
One of the project’s strongest and longest partners – Clif Bar Baking Company – has graciously offered to match every donation received during this year’s Giving Tuesday campaign, up to $5,000. Double your impact and help IMPD provide meaningful, positive engagement with Indy’s youth. Click here to make a contribution today!
